Introduction
The theme I chose is character. I chose 3 short stories that include characters that stand out. There are many different styles of characters, but it all depends on the type of story. One of th stories talked about a character that was not afraid to speak his words not in a good way because he used sarcasm towards bad people and learned his lesson with a price. The other story I chose talked about a character who was psychotic and slowly grew more insane as the story advanced. The last story chose to allow the love of his life to die because he wanted to remove a simple flaw on her face. He ended up succeeding, but she ended up dying.

Bullet in the Brain
The short story “Bullet in the Brain” by Tobias wolf has to do with a bank robbery and a man who dies because of the way he chose to speak to them. The story shows how sarcasm has a price by which the main character took the situation as a humorous moment when it was not. This story includes the theme character because the main character has a very strong personality in a situation that can end badly. He chose to express himself and pay the price rather than stay quiet and survive. I would say this story has one important character because the other characters can be replaced while Anders can not be.

Tell Tale Heart
This short story “Tell Tale Heart” written by Edgar Allen Poe is about a man who has been taking care of an old man for years, but was slowly driven crazy by the old mans eye. The old man had an abnormal eye that was twice the size of his other eye. This drove the care taker to a point of wanting to murder the old man, so that’s what he planned to do. This story shows the theme of character very well because the main character slowly goes insane as the story builds up. The care taker ends up going through with his wishes and murders the old man. He hides the evidence in the floor boards, so knowing where the body was drove him crazy. He began to hear a heart beat that drove him even more insane and made him yell. The police ended up coming because of the screams and he tried to stay calm, but the guilt drove him insane. This story had tons of character development and shows how guilt can change a person in a good or bad way.

Birth Mark
The short story “Birth Mark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about a man who loves his wife and think she would be perfect without her birth mark on her face. He does everything possible to remove it and ends up killing her in the process when achieving his goal. This short story shows character because the woman loves her partner more than herself and would do anything to make him happy. Being that she ends up losing her life. The man is selfish and decides he will love her fully only if she is perfect. This shows how selfishness can hurt the people you love and yourself in the long run.
